Description

READ: I've never shot something like this before, so this mid-day work was a nice opportunity to record something slightly different. Replacing track panels on an in-service elevated line while trains are running is no small feat, but the NYCTA has it down to a science. In the span of a 6 hour timeframe in between peak periods, workers efficiently cut out ~30 foot sections of old track, crane them away, then crane new replacement sections over and bolt & weld them in. Each section takes about an hour and some change to do, which means on a good day, crews can replace about 90 feet of track. Enjoy =) 0:00 - Trains 5:30 - Cutting old panel 12:20 - Lifting old panel & removing from work site 15:25 - Lifting new panel from street & replacing 25:00 - Lifting old panel to street Assorted NYC Subway action: https://youtu.be/ziuySV7xAM4
