Description
The upper house of the French parliament has voted to ban social media access for children under 15, as well as banning mobile phones in senior schools.
The vote puts France on track to become the first European country to implement such a law, following in the footsteps of Australia, where under-16s have been blocked from using platforms including Facebook, Snapchat and TikTok since December 2025.
The French process is still far from complete, but the legislation has now passed through both houses of parliament, and President Emmanuel Macron wants it in place by the start of the new school year in September.
