FIFA approves Afghanistan women's football team for international competitions

In an historic move the FIFA Council has made changes to their governance which will allow the Afghan Women United team to compete in FIFA competitions. It is a significant moment for the women of Afghanistan - a just reward for those who live in other countries and have fought for the right to represent their homeland, and a message of hope for those inside the country who are prevented from playing sport under Taliban rule. Now the question is whether the ICC will follow suit and allow the women's cricket team to compete. The ICC is yet to make any significant announcements, not a good look considering the sport is making its Olympic return in LA28.
