Description
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) pressed Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos about his political leanings in a hearing on the streaming giant's proposed purchase of Warner Bros.' studio and streaming assets on Tuesday.
"Are we right now on stolen land?" Sen. Cruz asked, referencing singer Billie Elish's acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, in which she proclaimed "no one is illegal on stolen land."
"I have no idea of the history of this land," Mr. Sarandos responded, with Warner Bros. executive Bruce Campbell concurring.
"That speaks volumes, that neither of you are willing to say, 'hell, no,'" Sen. Cruz said.
"Netflix has long been a left-wing company," he continued. "How are people at home — how should they feel even remotely confident that if this merger happens, the combined entity would not simply be a propaganda outlet pushing one particular political view, with much greater market power?"
