Description
Two things I’m incredibly passionate about: SPEARFISHING and SUSTAINABILITY, which go perfectly hand in hand 🐠
Spearfishing often gets labeled as a ‘bloodthirsty’ sport, and my goal is to change that perception. There’s so much more to it than most people realise. When practiced correctly and with the right mindset, spearfishing is easily one of the most sustainable methods of fishing. But with the wrong mindset, it can be damaging.
Wild-caught seafood is one of the highest quality proteins you can get, offering a ton of health benefits. As a commercial and recreational diver many of you know, my lifestyle depends on this resource, and the last thing I want is to see it overfished and ruined. I’m always trying to find that balance between getting a feed for my family and friends while doing it in a sustainable way 🦞
A few years ago, Bill Goh and I wrote an article on sustainable spearfishing that never got published, probably because it was too controversial 😂 I’ve taken many of those key points and brought them into this video.
This video isn’t about calling anyone out. It’s simply to spark more thought and conversation around how we hunt and the impact we have 🙂
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments - whether you agree or disagree!
NOTE: This video focuses only on sustainability within spearfishing, not other forms of fishing, that's a WHOLE nother topic 🎣
