Drum Teacher Reacts: Kids Cover TOOL’s 46 & 2 (Absolutely Incredible)

This one came in from longtime supporter Mike — and honestly, this is one of the coolest things I’ve watched in a long time. O'Keefe Music Foundation helping young musicians learn, play together, and record performances. And this cover of Forty Six & 2 by Tool is phenomenal. The craziest part? These musicians are between 8 and 16 years old. As a drum teacher, one of the biggest things I try to encourage is: Play music WITH people. Not just endless personal mastery at home. Music is social. Music is community. Music is shared experience. And this video captures that perfectly. Also — interestingly enough — I actually think this song sits in 4/4 most of the time (which feels very odd… excuse the pun… for Tool). The phrasing and subdivisions create the illusion of something much stranger rhythmically, which is part of why the groove feels so compelling. Absolutely phenomenal cover all round. 11/10. One more thing worth highlighting: O'Keefe Music Foundation are doing incredible work helping young musicians through free lessons, camps, recording opportunities, and collaborative music experiences.
