June 3, 2026
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received Ambassador-designate Carmen del Rocío Azurín Araujo of the Republic of Peru and Ambassador-designate Maria Lourdes Bernadette Z. Banson of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta during their presentation of credentials.
During the Peruvian envoy’s audience, the President discussed measures to further strengthen bilateral ties, enhance trade and investment opportunities, advance cooperation within regional economic frameworks, and explore new avenues for collaboration in connection with the Philippines’ 2026 Chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The presentation of credentials also marked a significant milestone as Peru reestablishes its resident diplomatic presence in the Philippines after more than two decades.
Meanwhile, the new Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta’s audience with the President reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the Philippines and the Order, whose humanitarian missions have provided critical assistance to communities affected by natural disasters and other crises. The meeting also paved the way for expanded cooperation in public welfare, healthcare and charitable initiatives.
President Marcos Jr. received the credentials of the two envoys separately during ceremonies at Malacañan Palace.
