The Secret to Controlling a Swarm

When a swarm lands, the race is on to find the queen before she disappears into the crowd. 👑🐝 🐝 My first mission is always to safely secure her in a queen clip for 3 days while the colony settles into their new home. Without this step, the entire swarm can suddenly take off and vanish! 🐝 One of my favourite techniques is pouring the swarm out right in front of the hive entrance and watching thousands of bees march inside. 🐝 Somewhere in the moving river of bees is the queen… and spotting her becomes an intense game of patience, focus, and experience. 🐝 It looks impossible at first, but once your eyes learn what to look for, the queen starts to reveal herself. — © Hinterland Bees
