Description

The World Conservation Union (IUCN) lists the Cat Ba langur as one of the most critically endangered primates in the world. In the past, poaching was a great threat to their survival: from over 2,500 individuals in the 1960s, the population declined to mere 50 individuals today. Low reproductive output further endangers their survival. In 2000, the Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project was started. Since then, for the first time in decades the population of the langurs has increased. Former poachers joined the conservationists’ team. Today every individual is important for the survival of the species. That is why two females, living isolated on a small island, need to be brought back to the main population. The international rescue operation begins: a team of American, Australian and German researchers, together with local helpers, plans the translocation like a military operation. They risk their lives to sedate the animals, navigate boats in the pitch-black night, and perform medical examination in a temporary jungle surgery. It’s an exciting and exhausting venture! But finally we see the two langurs making their first steps into a hopefully good future. ------- Chapters ▷ 00:00 - Introduction ▷ 02:00 - First Encounter with the Rare Langurs ▷ 05:03 - The Last of Their Kind - Endangered Primates of Vietnam ▷ 09:36 - Global Conversation Team in Action ▷ 13:00 - Ha Long Bay - Home of the Golden-Headed Langur ▷ 16:10 - Rescue Plan for the Isolated Females ▷ 22:15 - Battling Poaching and Human Threats ▷ 24:00 - Protecting Vietnam's Wildlife Heritage ▷ 26:30 - Waiting for the Moment - The Capture Mission ▷ 31:44 - Operation Resettlement Begins ▷ 34:26 - Inside the Cave - Sedating the Langurs ▷ 38:11 - Science in the Jungle - Tracking and Health Checks ▷ 45:45 - Through Rain and Rock - The Difficult Journey ▷ 48:00 - Journey to Freedom - Release Preparation ▷ 50:51 - The Great Release - Hope for the Future ▷ 54:04 - Credits #documentary #animals #wildlife #catbalangur #endangeredspecies #wildlifeconversation #biodiversity #animalbehavior #animalplanet ------- Subscribe to wocomoWILDLIFE: https://goo.gl/L5puvQ Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wocomo ------- Original title: The Last of their Kind - Saving the Cat Ba Langur A film by Hannes Schuler © 2013, Licensed by Albatross ------- Videos about animals, aquatic life and nature: wocomoWILDLIFE offers high-quality entertainment.
