John H. Hicks broke barriers at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

John H. Hicks became the first Black reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in 1949. A resident of East St. Louis, Hicks worked for the publication for 12 years after obtaining the position through a college connection.
