This Indie Animation DELETED Everything After Getting Called Out

Recently there’s been a situation in the indie animation community, leading to the downfall of two upcoming projects. What happened to as a sin? Let me explain. So a couple months artist deadeorum announced two indie animated shows they were creating called As a Sin and between the noise. As a sin follows the story of a fox in a dangerous divided world. While between the noise was a thesis film about insecurity and friendship. The two projects really started to gain traction for 2 main reasons. The first was the artstyle and animation, they feature fantastic artwork that clearly takes inspiration from vivziepop’s works like hazbin hotel. The second was it was revealed that voice actor alex rochon would be voicing one of the characters, causing clips of it to go viral on instagram. Yesterday everything fell apart however. Artist snowy came out with their experiences with the creator. They were a volunteer artist on as a sin and while they were in hospital due to their mental health, deadeorum kicked them from the project without warning. In the exchanges we can see snowy explain their situation, but they’re met with cold and inconsiderate 2 line responses. Snowy had also commissioned them for 2 art pieces, deadeorum finished one and didn’t start on the second. They gave them a partial refund of $30, but pocketed the other $70. They even unfollowed and unadded them after. Alot of indie animation fans came out in support of snowy which was great to see. So what was the response from the indie project? Well at first they deleted everything. All the pages associated with the project vanished, including the lucid nightmares studio page. A few hours later they issued an apology which didn’t go down well at all. It was extremely vague and didn’t address alot of the problems at hand. Since the response was so poorly received they just deleted all their pages again, and that’s the story so far. Personally i think this was a massive shame. I actually saw clips about these projects a few weeks ago and thought they looked interesting, but i never expected things to get ruined so quickly. It’s a great example of why you have to be careful working on projects for free. Bad actors will discard you once you’re no longer useful to them. So what do you think?
