Description
PROVINCE Of Albay
Oas, officially the Municipality of Oas (Central Bikol: Banwaan kan Oas; West Miraya Bikol: Banwaan nin Oas; Filipino: Bayan ng Oas), is a municipality in the province of Albay, Philippines. According to the 2024 census, it has a population of 64,890 people.
Oas
Oas is a coastal municipality in the west coast of Albay placed between the city of Ligao and the municipalities of Polangui and Libon accessible via Asian Highway 26. Its shoreline faces Burias Pass.
The local government of Oas, under the leadership of Mayor John Kenneth Trinidad, is set to allocate ₱40 million this year, 2026, for the construction of a new Oas Public Market.
According to the mayor, the funding for the project will come from the LGU fund. He emphasized that it is already timely and necessary for Oas to have a new public market, as the existing facility has long been in need of replacement due to its age and deteriorating condition.
At present, the technical plans have already been completed, and a series of public consultations has been conducted. Majority of the market vendors have expressed their support for the local government’s initiative to modernize the town’s public market.
Once the old market structure is scheduled for demolition, vendors will be temporarily relocated to vacant spaces surrounding the construction site of the new two-storey Oas Public Market.
Mayor Trinidad remains confident and optimistic that once the project is completed, it will attract more investors and encourage business growth in Oas.
