The global economy is undergoing two major transformations involving general purpose technologies: clean energy and artificial intelligence (AI), at a time when social and geopolitical pressures are already mounting. At the same time, the world is having to cope with the growing impacts of climate change. Decisionmakers in the public and private sector need to anticipate, manage and shape the rapidly shifting landscape of risk and opportunity avoiding the pitfalls of locking into stranded and devalued assets, while investing to supply growing new markets. The pace of change has caught many by surprise, with political economy consequences. But those that have moved proactively are thriving.
