Description
When you walk into a clinic, you assume the person treating you has been independently vetted and licensed. What if that’s not the case?
In Ontario, clinical assistants are not registered with the medical college, don’t have a public registry, and aren’t required by law to pass licensing exams. A doctor could hire ME as a clinical assistant, no third-party body validate my credentials, and I could even perform pap smears and incisions. 5 doctors I have spoken to across Ontario have told me there is practically no difference in the work that is being done by these unregulated clinical assistants versus regulated physician assistants.
