Description
Battery-powered travelling is opening new possibilities for mobile harbour cranes. In this animated video, we show how the LHM Unplugged brings electric crane travel to everyday terminal operations and how the system can be integrated into real terminal environments in a practical and familiar way.
With the LHM Unplugged, we enable mobile harbour cranes to travel more than two kilometres without cables and without a diesel engine on board. The system is designed so that the crane continues to be operated in the same way as before. Operators can work with the equipment they know, while terminals gain a new option for more sustainable operations.
Travelling with the LHM Unplugged is 100% locally exhaust emission free. This helps operators meet environmental regulations and supports cleaner terminal environments, especially in areas where combustion engines are restricted or no longer permitted. Without a diesel engine, there is also no need for exhaust after-treatment systems or SCR components, which reduces maintenance effort and operational complexity.
What about retrofitting cranes with existing Diesel engines? As part of the Liebherr Transform programme, we also offer the option to retrofit existing cranes. We can remove the diesel engine and replace it with the LHM Unplugged solution.
The battery system is supported by an intelligent thermal concept. It protects the battery in cold conditions and actively cools it in warmer environments. In the event of a power outage, the battery can provide energy for a limited number of controlled emergency cycles. This allows crane movements to be completed safely without abrupt stops or risk to cargo.
With flexible charging options across different voltage levels and a focus on reliability, the LHM Unplugged offers a practical, cable-free way to move around the terminal.
