Chansey Paech stands up for these communities in the NT

“My communities are calling me saying they had a big meeting in Papunya about a needle and dying. ‘How come we never had that meeting? What is this meeting? We are scared.’” Remote Aboriginal communities were left confused and frightened because the government didn’t consult properly. This is exactly what can happen when rushed laws like assisted suicide are pushed through. Many Territorians are worried about how this will affect families and trust in the health system. Assisted suicide won’t give people more choice — it will put vulnerable people at risk. Instead, the focus should be on real healthcare: palliative care, pain management, mental health services, and clinics that reach everyone.
