Description
We had our coldest morning of the year so far today and tonight will also be a little cool (but not as cold for most as last night) with a southerly flow helping to make for clearer skies in many regions for tonight's rare full lunar eclipse. Tonight's lunar eclipse is a rare "blood moon" - making the moon change to a red/orange colour as earth perfectly blocks the sun's sunlight for a time and our atmosphere changes the colour of the light that makes it to the moon. We have the latest forecast for that, with it occuring mid to late tonight and peaking just after midnight.
Weatherwise for the rest of this week - it's all about high pressure and mostly dry skies and lighter winds. Temperatures lift on Wednesday, then further going into Thursday and Friday as subtropical and/or nor'westers return.
But this weekend another, weaker, southerly flow moves up the South Island on Saturday and fades out over the North Island by Sunday, bringing another (smaller than today) temperature drop.
Next week again kicks off mainly dry and becoming warmer again. Welcome to the Autumn weather pattern.
*Programming Note:
Phil is away tomorrow so we have NO VIDEO on WEDNESDAY, back again on Thursday.
