Sea lions herd and hunt massive school of fish in the Galapagos Islands

Sea lions are adorably clumsy animals on land. They waddle and shuffle over the sand and the rocks on almost every section of coastline in the Galapagos Islands. In the water, however, these creatures are sleek and agile, moving with an effortlessness that defies logic. They flap their pectoral fins and propel themselves rapidly enough to hunt for fish, eels, and octopus. Sea lions particularly love to herd and then hunt large schools of salema porgies in the shallows. The fish cluster in groups that sometimes number in the millions. They dart in all directions as the sea lions swim through, hoping to isolate a few and then move in for the kill. These scuba divers watched the antics of the sea lions with great interest. The sea lions were equally curious about them. One of them came up to the diver and took a playful bite at his camera.
