David Begg - testimonial (April 28, 2024)
Welcome, Dave Begg. It’s great to see you looking fantastic. Can you tell us a bit about yourself in 30 seconds—your family and what life was like before the program?
My life before the program was a decent training regime, but a terrible diet.
I’ve always been someone who trains hard, believing you can out-train a bad diet—which, as we know, is false. It only took me 58 years to figure that out.
I live with my 21-year-old son, my wife, who is extremely busy, and our one remaining dog. With one child off to college, the house feels big, and I realised I needed to make real changes.
Through your program, I did exactly that—and got great results.
What results have you seen since starting?
I did fasting and lost 10 kilos quickly.
Since then, I’ve gone through small fluctuations—losing, gaining, and losing again.
But I recently checked in and found I’d dropped another kilo—so I’m now down 11 kilos.
More importantly, my body fat percentage is under 30% for the first time in years.
Fasting has been a game changer, and the wealth of information from you has been invaluable. I’m a voracious reader, so I’ve absorbed a lot.
What were the three foundational steps you took?
No longer dodging the mirror after a shower.
You need pride in your personal appearance.
Good shape = good mindset.
The better you feel physically, the sharper you are mentally.
More acuity at work.
Better clarity in life.
It makes you a better person to be around.
Many middle-aged men rely on alcohol as a crutch.
I was no exception—and it made me grumpier.
Cutting it out has improved my mood and relationships.
I now go on evening walks with my son and our dog—whereas before, I’d be pouring another glass of wine.
What gave you the most joy or surprised you the most?
The morning of a medical procedure, I got on the scales and saw I was almost back to my wedding weight.
That was a huge moment—I hadn’t seen under 85 kilos in years.
Also, fasting showed me how resilient the body is.
When you tell people you’re fasting for three days, they look at you like you’re crazy.
But the reality is, our need for food is mostly habit and social conditioning.
We eat because it’s time to eat, not because we’re actually hungry.
What exceeded your expectations?
Your accessibility—I could reach out whenever I needed support.
The Monday morning calls—all blokes my age, all working toward the same goal, with zero pretense.
What could be improved?
There’s a lot of information to process.
I love reading, so it wasn’t a problem for me, but I can see how some might feel overwhelmed.
Who else would benefit from this coaching?
It’s interesting—most of your cohort are country blokes, but I think city men would benefit even more.
In cities, we live more sedentary lives.
I’m an exception—I train hard and burn 600-700 calories per session.
But most middle-aged men don’t do that.
Guys in high-pressure jobs—where alcohol is used as a stress crutch—would see massive benefits.
The legal industry especially.
What did I help with the most?
Personal discipline.
I never thought I’d be able to go days without food.
But once you stick to the plan, the results are inevitable.
If you fast effectively, you WILL lose weight.
The only people not losing weight are the ones not following the program.
Let’s be frank—they’re still sneaking a Mars bar at 10 p.m. and wondering why the weight isn’t shifting.
You’re now officially Fitter After 40.
Thank you, Steve. I’m looking forward to working with you again in the future.
