A door pocket and a rivet walk into a Mercedes-Benz… Sounds like the start of a very niche joke. First up, he gets his hands on a PET monosandwich door pocket made with recycled PET and designed to reduce material complexity. Then, Rob demonstrates how a demountable thermoplastic rivet connection helps parts separate later in a much more controlled way. The novel monomaterial carrier featuring a new removable rivet is only one project within Tomorrow XX, a technology programme exploring the limits of technical feasibility.
