The smarter choice in 2026? RTX 3070 v RX 6700XT This is a difficult choice and it depends on the games/resolution you are running. Let's break it down a little bit. The RTX 3070 is limited by its 8GB VRAM which means it does tend to struggle in really new titles in 2026. This has always been a problem for the card for even older titles at 1440p it made the RTX 3070 lock down to about 60fps gaming. But at 1080p the card is still quite good but again even in 2026 games it can struggle. That’s not to discount the card it a lot of games where VRAM is not an issue the RTX 3070 will outperform the RX 6700XT as it is the faster card. The RX 6700XT is great in VRAM limited games like Battlefield 6 in 2026. It really does tend to shine when graphics settings are kicked up and resolution at 1440p. The RX 6700XT hasn't always been the faster card but in the long run the 12GB of VRAM is starting to show it usefulness. Now you might say oh what about upscaling or frame gen. This is a very true point and I don't fully have an answer for this. Upscaling yes, if we apply upscaling then yes of course the RTX 3070 should perform quite well, BUT if its vram limited its just going to be vram limited. If VRAM usage is too high it will just bleed on to your slower system ram which is unwanted and usually detrimental to performance. Frame generation is just not an option in vram limited scenarios as it inherently uses more VRAM. Either way a RTX 3070 with a 12gb or even 10gb would have been much better but I guess that’s why there is the RTX 3080 :/. Don't get me wrong I was on a RTX 3070 till March of 2025 and I love the card but yea if I'm going to point to a card in 2026 for someone to buy second hand I'm still choosing the RX 6700XT especially if they are playing 2026 titles. Another factor here is availability in my country New Zealand it's really difficult to find a reasonably priced RX 6700XT or one that’s even available in the first place. Many RTX 3070's are on the second hand market in NZ so it's easier and usually cheaper to buy.
