March 2006 and the cruise ship Star Princess had just set off from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise. The ship was to tour the Grand Cayman islands with stops at popular tropical ports along the way. For the passengers that excitedly stepped aboard that day, she was essentially like a floating town; with a gross tonnage over 108,000 tons and her overall length in excess of 984 feet, 289 metres, Star Princess was among the first of a new generation of “super ship” - it was easy to get lost on board. For passengers, the seven day voyage was supposed to be a trip to remember. It would be, but not for the reasons they expected.
