Our Peaceful Dog walk turned Chaotic here 🥵
🏰 Foxdenton Hall
Foxdenton Hall dates back over 300 years, standing on the site of an even older manor house.
Local legend says there was a secret underground tunnel linking Foxdenton Hall to Chadderton Hall during the English Civil War. Some evidence was reportedly found during restoration work in the 1960s, but nobody has proved the full tunnel exists.
The hall was once home to pioneering suffragist Lydia Becker, one of Britain's leading campaigners for women's right to vote.
After sitting empty for years, the hall is being restored to become a community heritage attraction.
🌳 Foxdenton Park
The peaceful duck pond and gardens were once part of the private grounds of the hall.
Today it's one of Oldham's hidden green spaces, with woodland walks, a sensory garden and plenty of wildlife.
🏡 Chadderton
Hundreds of years ago, Chadderton was known for two great manor houses—Foxdenton Hall and Chadderton Hall—which were home to some of Lancashire's most powerful families.
Before the cotton mills arrived, most local people were farmers and handloom weavers working from their cottages.
