This species comes from clear, fast-flowing, oxygen-rich mountain streams with rocky bottoms. It grows to around 10 cm and is specially adapted to strong currents, using its flattened body and fins to stay close to stones and surfaces. In nature and in the aquarium, it does best with plenty of flow, clean water, high oxygen levels, and natural biofilm to graze on. Its diet includes algae growth, microorganisms, and small sinking foods.
