The Truth behind Hate Speech Bill

The Government’s decision to rewrite Australia’s hate speech laws through a sweeping omnibus security bill has raised serious concerns about both the reach and intent of these reforms. The Bill is long and complex, making proper scrutiny difficult. It is not targeted or precise, relying on vague concepts that are impossible to clearly define. It is attempting to criminalise what it can't define. Worryingly, the Bill also increases penalties for religious leaders and creates the conditions where future expansion well beyond its original purpose is possible.
