Description
When you open with a forehand topspin against a push, everything feels great… until the block comes back and your next topspin flies off the end of the table.
In this video we break down the subtle (but crucial) adjustment you need to make:
✅ Ball 1 (backspin): lift more vertically to get the ball up and over the spin
✅ Ball 2 (block/topspin): stop “lifting” and drive more forward so the ball dips onto the table
This is one of the most common rally mistakes and it’s genuinely tricky because the difference is small, but the result is huge.
How to practise it:
🏓 Start with multiball: one ball with backspin, then one with topspin
🏓 Progress to realistic drill: open vs backspin, then block, then adjust and play the next one down
Key focus: on that second ball, do everything you can to keep it on the table (or even into the net) since the big error is going long.
