Description
On March 10, 2025, the Syrian Democratic Forces of Rojava signed an agreement to build a united Syria on the basis of equal treatment and local autonomy for the Kurds and all other minorities in the country.
However, early in January 2026, the post-Assad Syrian Transitional Government (STG) — headed by former Al Qaeda commander Ahmed al-Sharaa — and allied Islamic fundamentalist militias and Turkish-backed mercenaries began a military assault against Kurdish-held cities.
The US, European Union and Israel gave this genocidal war the go-ahead.
Now Rojava, and the 2.5 million Kurds people living there are in fighting to preserve the gains of the revolution in a fragile ceasefire and Syrian integration agreement signed on January 29 with the STG.
Speakers:
Dr Hawzhin Azeez, Kurdish poet and academic, founder of The Middle Eastern Feminist, former director of Kurdish Centre of Studies. She worked closely with refugees and IDPs in Rojava while a member of the Kobane Reconstruction Board after its liberation from ISIS in 2015.
Baran Sogut, Federation of Democratic Kurdish Society (Australia). He visited Rojava, including the city of Kobane, last September.
Peter Boyle, Socialist Alliance national executive member, Green Left journalist and co-founder of Rojava Solidarity Sydney.
