Japan's Visa Fee Hikes For Foreign Residents

Recently, the Japanese government proposes raising fees for changing or extending of a foreign national's residential status. The government is expected to submit a bill in next year’s ordinary parliamentary session to revise the immigration control law. Targeted implementation for the fee increases would be sometime in FY2026 (April 2026-March 2027). This could significantly affect not only many foreign residents, but the Japanese society negatively. But we haven't seen much resistance against it so far, either in the Diet or voters in Japan.
