RUDA Flood Protection Project Update 2026: Saving Lahore & Sheikhupura via River Ravi

Ravi Urban Development Authority is working day and night to protect the populations of Lahore and Sheikhupura from floods. [00:50] According to officials, the initial phase of the 20-foot high protective embankment will be completed by June 30 of this year. [01:04] Work has started from Ravi Syphon to Hudiara Drain, which is downstream of Jook Forest. [01:10] A 1 km corridor for the river has been left; whenever a flood comes, it will remain within this 1 km corridor. [01:16] The embankments on the right and left sides will protect the populations of Lahore and Sheikhupura. [01:22] During the 2025 flood, everyone was in fear. Our target is to first complete a preliminary embankment. [01:30] Under Phase 1, a 3 km long section from Ravi Syphon to near Hudiara Maraka has been completed. [01:41] Under the project, a 1 km wide and 46 km long channelized river will be created. [01:50] This will prove important not only for flood protection but also for future urban development.
