Yellow Tip Butterfly Visits Barren Strawberry Flowers for Nectar

Got a glimpse of a male yellow tip (Anthocharis scolymus, family Pieridae) restlessly visiting yellow flowers of Barren strawberry (Potentilla hebiichigo, family Rosaceae) to feed on nectar. Between the meal, he flew around over the overgrown mountain road, maybe in search of a female to mate with. He seemed to me a little bit attracted to (or showed interest in) the orange marking on my rubber boots as a supernormal stimulus (superstimulus). In hindsight, however, that was unlikely because the yellow tip colouration on the forewing is male-specific (sexually-dimorphic) in Anthocharis scolymus. The wingbeats in his flight were replayed at 5x slow-motion (0:13 - 1:14). Captured in the sunny early-afternoon (around 13:00 PM) of mid-May 2026 in Japan.
