The “Six Million Trees Planting Project,” a key pledge of the eighth elected provincial administration, is set to be completed this year. The province reported that 5.18 million trees were planted until last year. That is 86 percent of the target since the project began in 2022. This year, Jeju will expand urban greenery, including 1.9 hectares of wind-path forest and 6.3 hectares of climate-responsive urban forests. Once the project is completed, it is expected to absorb approximately 26,000 tons of carbon annually, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those produced by roughly 10,000 cars.
