Ontario wildfires: Doug Ford criticized for emergency preparedness

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says no expense will be spared to help people caught in the province's raging wildfires, which have forced thousands of people to flee their homes. Ontario’s government budgeted $150 million for fighting wildfires in 2026, a lot less than the $271 million that was spent the year before. On the frontlines, firefighters have also complained for years about pay, retention issues and the number of experienced staff leaving their roles.
