Description
Do I need a perfect accent to be successful? Let's talk about mindset.
I’m an English teacher, but I’m also a language learner. In this short, I share my honest experience learning Spanish as an adult (over 50). I'm not trying to learn as fast as possible, and I don’t aim for a "perfect" accent but rather accurate pronunciation. I focus on achieving successful communication, understanding others, and being understood — while keeping my sense of identity.
Aim to know more than you did yesterday. And keep going!
This message is for English learners (and all language learners) who experience pressure to sound exactly like a native. No one has "perfect" pronunciation. We all have some kind of accent. An accent does not prevent you from communicating well. And progress doesn’t have to be fast to be meaningful. You can learn a language, enjoy the process, and succeed...even with an accent.
Focus on having clear speech and continue to master enough grammar and vocabulary to express yourself.
