We fear that Tilly was abandoned on the streets because of her deformity. This 2-month-old sweetheart’s front left paw is missing two toes, and already, it’s impacting her mobility. As a large breed dog, we know amputation could be challenging—but it’s Tilly’s last hope. Our team is scrambling to raise funds for her urgent surgery, but the hard truth is that we can’t do this alone. If you believe Tilly deserves a second chance, we need your help NOW!
Recently, a kind stranger spotted Tilly lumbering down the street. Fearing she would starve to death or be hit by a car, the finder gathered this baby up and brought her to the shelter for safety. The instant our team saw Tilly’s photos and heard her story, our hearts melted. We said yes to her case and committed to getting her the care she needed.
As you can see from the photos and videos, Tilly’s front paw only has two toes. Based on her breed, her docked tail, and her deformity, we strongly suspect that Tilly was a victim of human greed. When the backyard breeder who owned Tilly realized that her deformity made her “unsellable,” they turned her out onto the streets. How absolutely cruel is that? We don’t know how Tilly’s owner could sleep at night knowing that this baby was dodging cars and desperately searching for food to stop her stomach from growling. It makes us sick.
Now, Tilly is safe, but her rescue journey is just beginning. Our veterinarians have recommended that we amputate Tilly’s deformed paw. Even though we are short on funds and amputations aren’t ideal for large dog breeds, we have to say… we agree. This deformed paw is already affecting Tilly’s ability to walk. At just two months old, this sweetheart weighs a whopping 30 pounds—and she’s only going to get bigger. We expect she will weigh around 110 pounds once she’s an adult. That’s a LOT of weight to place on only two toes. Our worry is that if we don’t move forward with an amputation ASAP, this deformity could impact Tilly’s mobility even further.
Tilly’s procedure will involve removing her entire limb to ensure she has even weight distribution. We hope that with an early amputation, Tilly will have an easier time adjusting. Since she’s still a puppy, she will have plenty of time to learn how to rebalance her weight and navigate the world as a tripod. And once that step is complete, we will need to address the hernia on her stomach. Needless to say, Tilly has a long and challenging road ahead, but she’s more than worth it.
Everyone who has met Tilly has absolutely fallen in love. She does her best to run after tennis balls and even knows commands like “sit.” She’s the kind of pup that families dream of adopting. We’re eager to move forward with the amputation procedure so Tilly can heal and find a forever home where she is loved and cherished, but there’s a major obstacle in the way.
As those of you following our rescue work know, we are a volunteer-run, donation-powered nonprofit saving as many lives as we can. We’re only able to do what we do because of support from animal lovers like YOU. This past month has taken a brutal toll on our rescue’s budget. We are balancing multiple medical cases, and our funds are almost dried up. We desperately want to move forward with Tilly’s care, but it won’t be possible without help!
Please, if you can spare even a few dollars, you can help us change Tilly’s story for the better. We urge you to donate to her ongoing medical care fund today. And if you aren’t in a position to give at this time, that’s okay! We just ask that you share Tilly’s story and spread the word. Every ounce of support matters right now. Thank you so much for your kindness, and stay tuned for updates.
With hope and urgency,
Brizzee Animal Rescue
Since Tilly’s previous owner is unknown, and there are no viable leads, an investigation can’t be opened. We know that’s frustrating, but right now, the best thing we can do for Tilly is help her heal. Thank you for your understanding and your support.
