I visited the world’s largest display of miniature model airports: JFK, LAX, Heathrow, and Mumbai. Take a look at the story of how these miniatures took flight ✈️
Brian Keene from AvPro Designs (https://www.avprodesigns.net/) introduced his passion and work of building model airports. Starting at JFK, the airport got Brian into aviation. He built all nine terminals and the cargo complex by hand. There are hundreds of airplane models on display at JFK, including many Boeing 747s, which resemble the golden age of aviation. Brian explained all the details involved in building such a miniature airport.
Next, Brian built London Heathrow Terminal 3 to resemble scenes from the 1970s and 1980s at the busy international gateway. There are many International airline models on display, along with double-decker buses, black taxi cabs, and an old control tower building.
After Heathrow, it is LAX, which is the model diorama builder’s dream. It features all eight terminals, central roadway and parking complex, a theme building, and the Southern runway, as well as cargo and VIP facilities.
The latest airport showcasing Brian’s work is Mumbai International. The airport has incredible lighting inside the terminal and on the taxiway and runway. The miniature on display is the next level. Brian plans to build more airports in the near future, such as Hong Kong Kai Tak, Paris CDG, and Tokyo Narita.
