South Sheffield: Greenwashing Our Fields: The Industrialisation of our Greenbelt 🚜
How much is too much? 😡 While the ongoing construction at Common Farm (on Todwick Road and the Brampton Straight Mile) is already set to power nearly 20,000 homes, a massive new threat is looming over South Sheffield and Rotherham.
The proposed Whitestone Solar Farm originally started as a mammoth 3,500-acre project. Even though developers have had to scale it back, it remains a massive, industrial-scale infrastructure project that threatens to swallow up prime agricultural land and destroy protected Green Belt countryside across our local villages.
Local MPs like Jake Richards (Rother Valley) and John Healey are calling out the developer's corporate "greenwashing" and are fighting to block this project entirely. Our communities are being forced to take a completely unfair share of the UK's green energy burden simply because we are close to local National Grid hubs like the Brinsworth Substation.
Watch the full on-location breakdown from the bottom end of Todwick Road right down the Brampton Mile to see exactly what we are at risk of losing.
What do you think? Are these projects saving the planet, or are they just corporate industrialisation destroying our local South Yorkshire countryside? Let me know in the comments! 👇
