From the depths of the Boulby Mine to the roadways, salt plays a key role in keeping you safe on the roads this winter! 🚛❄️ Extracted from 1,500 feet underground, we store 280,000 tonnes of salt in our salt barns, ready to be spread 🌍💎 With 530+ gritters at 128 depots, we work to ensure that the salt has been spread onto the road surface before the temperature drops below 0°C to minimise the risk of frost or ice forming, ensuring the roads are safe 🌨️ Spreading salt doesn’t stop snow from settling, but it creates a debonding layer that helps plough snow off roads more easily, reducing the risk of collisions and helping you to have a safe journey.
