I FIRED My Video Editor

In this video, I walk you through how I automated the most repetitive parts of video editing — from cutting silences and fixing pacing to generating captions and assembling a near-finished timeline. Instead of relying on existing tools like Descript or CapCut (which hit limits fast), I decided to build a custom solution tailored to how creators actually work. Using AI tools like Cursor, OpenAI Whisper, and Gemini, I was able to prototype a fully functional MVP in just a weekend. Here’s what the system does: • Uses Whisper for precise word-level timestamps • Intelligently removes silences without making cuts feel unnatural • Automatically selects the best takes using Gemini • Generates perfectly synced captions with consistent styling • Exports a rough cut that’s genuinely ~80% complete This is just Part 1 — the foundation.
