Description

Heino, born Heinz Georg Kramm on December 13, 1938, in Düsseldorf, Germany, became one of the most successful and recognizable Schlager singers in Europe. Famous for his deep baritone voice, platinum blond hair, and dark sunglasses, Heino sold more than 50 million records worldwide during a career spanning over six decades. Contrary to popular belief, Heino was not blind. He wore dark glasses because he suffered from Graves-Basedow disease, a thyroid-related eye disorder that made his eyes extremely sensitive to light. His hit song “Blau blüht der Enzian” was released in September 1972 and became his biggest international success. It was later featured in the 1973 comedy film of the same name. The single reached No. 2 on the German charts and also charted in Austria, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Heino began his musical career in the early 1960s with the trio OK Singers before launching a solo career. His first major hit was “Jenseits des Tales” in 1966, which sold more than 100,000 copies. Throughout the late 1960s and 1970s he became a dominant figure in German Volksmusik and Schlager music with songs such as “Karamba, Karacho, ein Whisky”, “Mohikana Shalali”, “La Montanara”, “Die schwarze Barbara” and “Rosamunde.” His albums “Blau blüht der Enzian”, “Die schönsten Heimatlieder”, and later “Mit freundlichen Grüßen” became bestsellers.
