Description
Mr. Bodi Reddy, a resident of Chennareddypalli village (Nellore), faced the daunting challenge of Chronic Liver Disease. After months of medical management, Mr. Reddy found a second lease on life through the expertise of the transplant team at Manipal Hospital Whitefield.
Despite 6 months of intensive medical treatment, Mr. Reddy’s condition continued to decline, characterized by ascites (fluid buildup) and deteriorating liver function. Under the care of Dr. Sanjeev Rohatgi, Consultant - Surgical Gastroenterology, HPB & Liver Transplant Surgery, and Dr. Nikhil Shellagi, Consultant - Surgical Gastroenterology, the decision was made to proceed with a Living Donor Liver Transplant (LDLT).
In a courageous act of love, Mr. Reddy’s wife, Mrs. Rangamma, stepped forward as his donor. The surgical team successfully transplanted approximately 65% of her liver. While the donor recovered swiftly and was discharged within 7 days, Mr. Reddy’s path was more complex.
Under the supervision of Dr. Rajesh Mohan Shetty, Consultant - Critical Care Medicine, he spent nearly 30 days in the ICU for complex post-operative complications. Through treatments like plasmapheresis and specialized immunosuppression, the team stabilized his liver function and today, both him and his wife are healthy and back to their normal lives.
