Speaking English like a native speaker means nailing several common reductions. One of the most common reductions in English is “going to” reducing to “gonna”. Speaking English naturally and fluently involves reducing this phrase often and substantially! Native speakers learn to do this as they learn the language aurally. But if you’re learning to speak English as a second language the reduction “gonna” can be jarring! It feels like you’re doing something wrong (i.e. not speaking both words), but actually you’re doing something wrong by saying both! Speaking English well involves many such reductions, but for now we’re gonna focus on just this one!
