Description

G'day all! Welcome to my Victorian High Country Mini-Series. Come along, and we'll show you that you don't need to do these really difficult, challenging or extreme 4wd tracks to experience some of the best sights the High Country has to offer. Starting of in Jindabyne, we make our way south of the border, to experience some of the best sights of the High Country. We travel through some of the best spots and towns, including Orbost, Bruthen, Dargo, Hotham, Omeo, Falls Creek, Bright, Mount Buffalo, Mansfield, Mt Stirling and Geehi. We planned to take in some Easy, scenic 4wd tracks around the High Country, as well as visit some of the magnificent Alpine Huts, scattered around Alpine and High Country. This trip had a mixed bag of everything. Rain, wind, thunder, heavy fog, sun. Everything, but the snow! A true High Country experience. The temperatures were quite warm. Very warm! Especially for the mountains, and this was especially noticeable climbing up, and then back down into the valleys, where the temps were often 8-10 degrees warmer. In Episode 3, we continue heading along the Dargo High Plains road towards Hotham, taking in the awesome views of the High Plains, and checking out the Lankey Plain Hut. Our original plan for today was to head as far north as Mitta Mitta, and then jump onto the Trappers Gap track, between Mitta and Mt Beauty, and then head back to Falls Creek. However time constraints meant we had to change plans a bit. We came of the black top, and headed out along the Great Alpine Road, to visit Hotham. But before that, we ducked into Blowhard hut. It was a pretty day, so i could see why they called it Blowhard! Even though not much was happening in the Summer in Hotham, we were most importantly, able to track down a coffee shop for a much needed caffeine fix. After which, we visited to the magnificent JB Plain Hut, nestled amongst the snow gums. After a quick pit stop in Omeo to fuel up and grab more coffee, we continued up the Bogong High Plains road for more Hut Hunting. We ducked into Cope and Wallace hut, which another 2 awesome huts, before heading into Pretty Valley, where we enjoyed a stunning sunset on the summit of Mount McKay, before heading to camp for the night.
