Description
Mark 10:28–30 (NLT) - “Then Peter began to speak up. ‘We’ve given up everything to follow you,’ he said. ‘Yes,’ Jesus replied, ‘and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life.’”
In this passage from the Book of Mark, Jesus gives an assurance many believers are uncomfortable talking about: those who answer God’s call, including pastors, are not promised poverty. They are promised provision.
After the rich young ruler walked away, Peter spoke what the disciples were all thinking. They had given up everything. Jesus did not correct him. He agreed, then made a clear promise. Anyone who sacrifices for Him and for the Good News will receive a hundredfold return in this life, with eternal life to come.
The sacrifice is real. Following the call of God often means laying down businesses, property, opportunities, and security. But Jesus made it clear that sacrifice made for Him and for the gospel is never wasted. God’s promise includes provision, increase, and yes, persecution.
The issue is never prosperity itself. The issue is motive. Sacrifice is not for position, fame, or money. It is for Jesus and for the Good News. When that is the reason, God Himself ensures the return.
Jesus said it plainly. Those who give up everything for Him will not end up with nothing.
