#gridsparta #bikies Former C.F.M.E.U boss John Setka has been arrested and charged over allegations that he sent a series of threatening emails to a union administrator. Police said the 61-year-old was arrested at his Footscray home early on Wednesday, November 12, by detectives from Taskforce Hawk, who also seized a mobile phone and an iPad during the search. Investigators allege the messages were sent shortly after the administrator issued a Notice to Produce, which is a formal legal request, requiring the reciver to provide specific documents or records. Setka now faces seven counts of using a telecommunications device to menace or harass, offences that each carry a maximum penalty of three years in prison. Taskforce Hawk was established to target criminal conduct within the construction industry, and has confirmed that it is continuing to investigate broader links between the union and alleged organised crime figures. Police said they would not tolerate any form of intimidation or harassment within workplaces. After his arrest Setka was released on bail and is due to appear at Melburn Magistrates Court on January 30. His arrest comes after a federal intervention placed the union’s construction division under administration, following growing concerns about corruption and criminal infiltration. Setka resigned as Victorian state secretary of the C.F.M.E.U last year, amid mounting misconduct allegations. Setka has been linked to various bikies and organised crime figures in the past, including Mick Gatto, Johnny "Two Guns" Walker, Luke Moloney and many more.
