Description

Pilliwiggin is a juvenile male Grey-Headed Flying-Fox about 15 weeks old (or thereabouts). He was found on the ground in the loading dock of a factory where he'd been overnight. He has smacked his head and has been very very calm and quite cooperative during his early days. He was so alert and "kind of tame" that I even scanned him for a chip, but there's nothing, so he hasn't been in care previously (and he's too young to be out of area from a group who doesn't chip their bats). He has survived 9 nights now, is peeing and looking a little more alert and is also moving around a better; he's hungry and is eating if hand fed, and beginning to self feed overnight, but he's not really happy feeding from the bowls yet. He's still wonky but I have hopes for his continued improvement. Today Maggie came over so we can splint his "good wrist" which has a lump on the back of it, and he's not using that thumb to get around the cage. Maggie also meets little Nyxi,, whom I kept as a delightful surprise for her visit, a reward for coming over at short notice on Easter day to help me manage Pilliwiggin's splint application. Enjoy the cameo of Maggie falling in love with Nyxi during her fleeting visit. We both sniffed the gorgeous baby smell out of her until she could make more gorgeous baby aroma. Pilliwiggin is the name of a woodland sprite which refers to a tiny fairy or sprite designated as a guardian of flowers in English and Irish folklore. I'm quite enjoying my current magic myth and faerie inspiration for batty names. KOKO little Wiggi; keep on keeping on. Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult). https://tolgabathospital.org/donate/ Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me. If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me. IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt. The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie. Here’s Jenny’s email. [email protected]
