On May 17, 1986, Whitney's version of "Greatest Love Of All" hit Number One on the Billboard Hot 100!! It is a cover of an original song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed and recorded by George Benson. This was the sixth single from Whitney's self-titled album. The song found immediate success upon its release and became her third consecutive number one single. The video became the first music video on MTV by a black female artist to immediately debut in heavy rotation on the channel. She won the American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Video Single for the music video in 1987 (the video was filmed at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem) It was nominated for a Grammy for Record of the Year, losing out to Stevie Winwood's "Higher Love" (and Whitney's version with Kygo came out years later!)
