You never quite know what you’re going to see in Gabon… Our ranger paused to film this incredible forest elephant taking a refreshing dip, a peaceful moment of swimming, splashing and cooling off in the river. And it’s not just for fun… Drinking: An adult forest elephant needs around 100–200 litres of water every day or two to stay hydrated. Cooling off: Even beneath the rainforest canopy, the humidity and constant effort of moving through dense forest can cause overheating. Submerging in rivers helps regulate their core body temperature and keeps them comfortable. Moments like this are a beautiful reminder of how vital healthy rivers are for wildlife survival. #theaspinallfoundation #gabon #elephants
