Activists covered the Fifa logo in Toronto with a banner reading "Kick Israel out of Fifa" on Friday, as Canada geared up for its first game of the 2026 World as one of the hosts. Faisal Ibrahim, an activist involved the protest, said it was to "call out double standards," criticising Fifa President Gianni Infantino's praise of Trump amid the US involvement in Israel's genocidal war on Gaza. Pro-Palestine activists have long called for Israel to be sanctioned by Fifa, comparing the body's reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine to its lack of action over what leading international experts agree is a genocide in Gaza.
