Settle Carlisle - The long drag - 1988

A part of the video series named 'The train now departing', this film focused on the battle to save the Settle & Carlisle Railway in the 1980s. The episode was filmed shortly before then Transport Minister Michael Portillo overturned the government’s decision to close the line, a decision since vindicated by the enormous success the line has seen in the years since.
