After catching A87 running lite, I went back to Sheffield Yard to continue waiting on 320. While they were building their train, I heard a 16A heading into the Shoals, so I decided to try again for this crossing in downtown Sheffield. Thankfully, I was able to beat it here with plenty of time to spare. Here we see my fourth train of the day: NS 16A heading through downtown Sheffield towards Sheffield Yard with a pair of AC44C6Ms for power.
Thankfully, nothing has changed to this modernized late-70s SOU install since I last filmed it back in 2023. It appears that the Safetran signals here that the Southern installed back in the late-70s replaced an even older GRS install from the SOU, based on the remaining GRS gateless mast between the two mains here. Apparently the SOU did use GRS Type B gate mechs at one point, so I suppose it's possible this crossing originally had a pair of those at it.
